The ERIS Special Recognition Award is given annually by the ERIS Board to recognize an individual who, or entity that, has advanced ERIS’ mission and goals and demonstrated a sustained and meaningful commitment to collaboration with state environmental agencies on research and science
policy matters.

For his dedicated commitment to ERIS while serving as ITRC Co-Chair from 2012 – January 2017 and involvement in numerous ECOS groups, including engagement in the Planning Committee, Partnership & Performance Workgroup, and DOD Sustainability Workgroup.

Dr. Thomas Burke (U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development)
For his tireless dedication to a thoughtful and rich conversation between U.S. EPA and state environmental agencies on important and cutting-edge science policy, specifically his deep commitment to aligning EPA’s ORD work with the needs of state agencies that generally do not have the capacity to conduct large scale research.
